Support construction, maintenance and upgrade of experimental devices. Overtime and work on second or third shift is sometimes required. Work under the direction of a lead electrician.
Assist with the construction of experimental devices.
Perform maintenance, repairs and new installations on research and industrial equipment with direct supervision.
Follows all lab safety rules and regulations and uses protective equipment to prevent electrical shock (hot work is not allowed).
Interprets wiring diagrams, engineers sketches and specifications to determine design factors.
Install and de-install various types of wiring, cable, conduit, switches, fixtures and circuits safely.
Performs cable pulls through conduit and tray.
Installs lighting and power circuits, fiber optic cables (no terminations), power control equipment, motors and generators (typical voltages 480v 3ph and below).
Uses hand and trade power tools and testing equipment.
Work directly under lead electrician and at times independently.
Assist with troubleshooting wiring circuits; inspects equipment using testing equipment.
Works in confined spaces to install/repair/remove wiring and electrical equipment.
Trade material knowledge. Maintain shop storage of material.
Perform daily shop and work area cleanup.
Must pass PPPL required training example: LOTO, GET, Hazard communications, EUT, Radiation Safety training etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Associate Degree in a technical field a plus. Military experience, Trade school or equivalent is beneficial.
Five plus years of experience performing electrical work in an industrial or commercial environment.
Understanding the National Electric Code.
Demonstrated understanding and ability to work from blueprints, engineers sketches or wiring diagrams.
Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems.
Familiar with hand and shop tools, crimper, puller, bending equipment and general shop practices.
Familiar with various types of relays, motor controls, push buttons, float controls, interlocks, etc.
General understanding of transformers (including theory, types and purpose).
General understanding of DC current theory.
Ability to use computers, read schematics, read technical documents and passes relevant technical training in a variety of subjects.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Work includes climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs, working in confined spaces, working in awkward positions, and requires full mechanical dexterity. Must pass site training and be able to work on lifts.
