Our Client:Headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, our client is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide the highest quality of treatment and recovery services to clients with addiction and behavioral health disorders. Clinics are located throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York.Position Summary:Reporting to the CEO, and as a member of the Executive Leadership and Cabinet, this newly created position provides leadership and quality of patient care for the organization, serving as the liaison between administrative and medical professionals. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) manages all medical staff (MDs, NPs, PAs and Nurses) encompassing hiring, disciplinary action and terminations. He/She will ensure that medical services are compliant with licensed diagnostic and treatment regulations and are fiscally solvent. This individual will be dedicated to addiction treatment and have a strong knowledge of OASAS regulatory requirements and demonstrated leadership of medical staff. Responsibilities: Supervise and review the employment and recruitment of all medical professionals and lead the orientation of physicians and nurses to support new and existing medical services. S/he will develop, align, and mobilize physicians and prioritize around successfully achieving clinical, operational, and strategic objectives. Lead the development and maintenance of a culture of learning among medical staff and between medical staff and behavioral health staff. Oversee compliance with requirements for continuing medical/nursing education and the selection of medical/nursing guest speakers of a continuing education program. Develop and lead the implementation of short- and long-term plans for the Unit of Medical Services, in support of the organization s overall business and financial goals. Ensure the orientation and continuing competence of all medical staff; provide periodic performance evaluations for senior medical staff. Assist in the design and execution of all medical research conducted; collaborate with the Department of Evaluation & Research in the conduct of intramural evaluation/auditing and researchAttend at least 10 medical meetings annually; provide administrative leadership representing the corporation in meetings with regulatory agencies (OASAS, FDA, DEA and NYSDOH).Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure medical alignment and scope of practice based on evidence-based data; participate in the development of administrative and medical policies and guidelines to improve service to clients.Provide intervention support where appropriate.Collaborate with Operations and Behavioral Health preparing grants to fund Medical Services.Meet or exceed the agency's existing performance standards, both personally and as a Unit (e.g. clinic, program, etc.) in the domains of regulatory compliance, financial accountability/ productivity, quality, and satisfaction of the population served by the AgencyEducationA graduate degree from an accredited school of medicine, license as a physician (MD) in the State of New York and Board certification in internal medicine or family practice is required. Board certification in addiction medicine or eligibility to sit for the board certification within one a year is highly preferred.Professional Qualifications: No less than 7 -10 years of experience in a leadership position in a multi-location medium to large health care agency, focusing on primary care and addiction medicine is required. Tenure in a health system or major medical group that is recognized for excellence in medical care and behavioral health with a successful track record of superior performance is mandatory. Proven success within a medical provider of continuing education resulting in achieving desirable clinical outcomes in addiction medicine and primary care. Demonstrated knowledge of managed care and health policy that encourages strategic superior medical competence. A history of involvement in organizations (government or professional) focusing on health/behavioral health policy development and medical manpower development. Experience in the recruitment and retention of medical providers; superior management and executive capabilities in maximizing the performance of medical staff while monitoring and controlling the financial impact of these efforts. Experience with performance improvement and quality management programs; a track record of championing a culture of collegiality between physicians and nurses and between medical staff and behavioral health staff. Personal Characteristics: Exceptionally strong ethical, intellectual, professional and personal values with a patient/adolescent centered approach; a confident, collaborative leader; assertive in style, but respectful of others. Strong leadership skills, able to liaise between the Medical Staff and management (and vice versa). Successful experience as a coach and mentor; sensitive to a client base of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Excellent motivation skills to encourage all levels of staff for performance and achievement of goals. Strategic thinker who possesses exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build credible, influencing relationships throughout the organization and establish a proactive, result-oriented culture.Travel Requirements: 45% of the CMO s time is spent visiting medical staff, providing consultations and coaching quarterly for physicians and the Director of Nursing at the various clinics.
